WNBA ALL STAR WEEKEND 🏀⭐️

The WNBA All Star Weekend took place July 13-15, 2023 in Las Vegas, NV- the home of the reigning champs, The Las Vegas Aces. It was a special moment as Team Stewart and Team Wilson geared up to go head to head to see who was the best of the best. These All Stars are considered the leagues best players and future stars to lead the league. As mentioned before A’ja Wilson was team Captain for a second year, and she has been taking the WNBA by storm with her talents and leadership. Breanna Stewart came into the season hands down as one of the best players in the league. She has continued to show her stride in her career, leadership, and charisma on the court with the New York Liberty. Thus, it was no wonder there was so much talk around this specific All- Star roster.

Each Captain was joined by stars who were voted in by the fans and the committee. The teams are then drafted by each Captain no matter what team or geographical location. Therefore, the teams would be evenly blended. The reserve players were voted in by a coaching panel which allowed them to add players who may not have been voted in- allowing them to get their chance to shine on the big court. There is no doubt that every woman voted in was deserving to be on the roster.

One of the highlights from the roster was rising star Aliyah Boston from the Indiana Fever. She is a rookie and she has officially made her first All- Star team as a Starter. There is no doubt that Aliyah has had a dominate following since her high scoring and elite career with the South Carolina Gamecocks. Boston is one of one and will surely be taking this next generation of women athletes by storm.

Although, the WNBA All- Star Weekend is not as star studded and glazing as the NBA All- Star Weekend- I would say that this year hands down was the best year it has ever seen. The WNBA is racking in exposure from many angles and it is working its best to stake its claims as being an entertaining sport. One thing I would say is helping the league is its favorable players that people are beginning to love. I mean the All- Star weekend is essentially for the fans so they can engage and see their favorites hit the court, challenges, and more. I truly believe that the marketing for the WNBA has improved and it has opened the doors for players to become recognized in many ways that they were not before. I can say that having players in the league that have huge followings is helping the league as well. It is only a matter of time before we get a complete change in revenue and TV deals for the WNBA, and many will say it is well overdue. Although, there is still the lack of teams as there is only 12 and the need for more- in terms of revenue, teams, exposure, TV time. It is only a matter of time before the sports world has to give in and enhance the quality of the WNBA because the fans will want it. In the next few years we have super stars like Caitlin Clark who will be joining the league, and with those stars there is hope that it will change the trajectory of the league.

However, as All- Star weekend progresses it will be something to see these two teams go head to head. The excitement of Vegas in itself makes this year’s game one of the best to ever occur for the WNBA. With that I wanted to give everyone a little lesson on the WNBA and how it all takes place, while also congratulating the women who have earned the honors.
