WIS-Serena and Venus Williams Make History

Let’s hear it for the girls! Serena and Venus Williams make history as they become the first Black women to become minority investors in an NFL team for the Miami Dolphins.

It has been reported that the Miami Dolphins have gone through many ownership changes within the last few seasons. Going from one complete owner to numerous owners now under the ownership of Stephen Ross who now owns 95% of the team with adding some minority owners. It has been reported that Miami has now added Minority owners to the organization who have had their own share of stardom and success, including Jennifer Lopez and Mark Anthony in the past. As we all know Miami is a land of exciting nightlife, beach goers, stardom, and all the lights of glitz and glam. It is also heavy cultured and vibrant with their fan base. Therefore, it was no true surprise that they would requisition some of the most well known stars/ athletes with the Williams’ sisters.

This decision came back in 2009 when they became a part of the ownership and many had questioned on whether or not it was out of interest for the sport or for more money. Needless to say the sisters have made an incredible amount of money from their tennis career but also from their ventures of being entrepreneurs. However, to date the Dolphins are said to be worth 4.6 Billion dollars- which has increased since the sisters came onto the leadership team. I look forward to seeing just how much more the sisters can add to the organization and hopefully the team can eventually bring home a Super Bowl win. But, for now let’s just hear it for the women who continue to conquer in all areas of sports!
