First Woman to EVER Coach in a SB
Sowers' pioneering journey in the game of football has come a long way, playing in the Women's Football Alliance before becoming the first woman to coach in the Super Bowl — as well as the first openly gay coach in the NFL. She continues to make her mark coaching in a budding college flag football league.

#KatieSowers grew up playing football with her twin sister and friends near Wichita, Kansas, where she grew up. She always wanted to be a coach but never thought she would be the first female and out gay coach in Super Bowl history.

Sowers first joined the NFL as an assistant coach with the Atlanta Falcons in 2016 and left for the 49ers a year later. She said being the first woman and out gay person in the Super Bowl was "an incredible experience" and also "a lot of responsibility."

Sowers' contract with the 49ers ended in January 2021 after four seasons. In late May, she joined the Chiefs in the offseason. Currently, Katie is currently works in the athletic department of Ottawa University coaching the flag football team.
